STEM Projects presents As Above So Below - As Within So Without, a solo presentation by Dede Cipon from February 4 to March 19, 2023, at Tirtodipuran Link Building A, Yogyakarta. This solo presentation showcases new works, that include several drawings on paper and canvas.

The idea behind Dede Cipon’s works in his solo presentation this time revolves around his personal fascination with the “principle of correspondence”, one of the seven principles of Hermetic: “As above, so below; as below, so above. As within, so without; as without, so within.” Generally, this principle accepts that there will always be a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of various living beings and life itself, that we are what we think, and everything in one's reality is a projection of one's own inner thoughts and feelings.

Dede Cipon creates images consisting of various patterns and geometric shapes that are carefully and meticulously drawn—circles and squares, spirals and checkers, lines and dots—all of which are composed as if they resemble the diagrams we can find in astronomy encyclopedias, biology, and medicine. Cipon's paper and canvas were deliberately stained with dabs and splashes of tea, sometimes coffee, creating a vintage feel like old parchment and manuscripts.
