Srisasanti Gallery proudly presents Mencari Lagi… (In Search, Again …), a solo exhibition by renowned artist and cultural figure Goenawan Mohamad. Opening on 21 February 2025, at Tirtodipuran Link Building B, this exhibition showcases more than 50 works across various mediums, offering a comprehensive perspective on the artistic practice of Goenawan Mohamad that is constantly evolving.
Mencari Lagi… marks Goenawan Mohamad’s eighteenth solo exhibition, presenting 59 works created between 2017 and 2025. The exhibition includes 19 paintings, 25 drawings, 11 gumoil prints, 3 etchings, and 1 object-installation, each refl ecting his relentless pursuit of new methods and ideas. The exhibition highlights the dynamic shifts in Goenawan Mohamad’s visual expression, demonstrating his refusal to be confi ned by the boundaries of fi gurative or abstract art. The fi rst fl oor of the exhibition presents sketches, drawings, and gumoil prints that retain strong fi gurative elements, while the second fl oor reveals a series of oil paintings that lean toward abstract expressionism.
Born in 1941, Goenawan Mohamad began his artistic journey in Yogyakarta in 2016. Since then, his artistic practice has flourished with remarkable intensity and productivity. Between 2017 and 2018 alone, he held fi ve solo exhibitions and produced more than 150 works, including sketches, drawings, and paintings.
Believing that “a drawing is a visual energy” that “brings its own joy,” Goenawan Mohamad continues his artistic exploration by exploring new media and different working methods, such as oil painting, charcoal drawing, and printmaking. Thus, the title of his solo exhibition, Mencari Lagi…, encapsulates an ongoing artistic pursuit.
