Eko Bintang
Born in Jakarta, 1984
Eko Bintang’s paintings and drawings are like a stage where one’s identity is scrutinized. He questions how we often comply with unsatisfactory situations formed by social norms. In his works, he primarily creates characters with tenderness and vulnerability that are concealed through acts of charade or disguise. Through them, Eko highlights the tensions that emerge when social expectations regulate and constrain the way people ‘should’ behave and present themselves. His practice probes how assumptions signifi cantly infl uence the identities we project onto one another, especially within environments that frequently demand conformity.
