Srisasanti Gallery is pleased to present Gathering/Ground/Gesture, a group exhibition featuring 14 artists from Indonesia and abroad, including Taiwan, Philippines, and USA. The works propose another way of thinking about movement across distance and the forms of encounter that have long shaped the Indonesian archipelago, taking inspiration from the familiar historical shorthand “Gold, Gospel, Glory.”

Featuring Cheng Nung-Hsuan, Eko Bintang, J. Ariadhitya Pramuhendra, Jomari T'leon, Kanoko Takaya, Kareem Soenharjo, Mr. S, Naufal Abshar, Nesar Eesar, RYOL, Ruth Marbun, Stuart Snoddy, Wang Guan-Jhen, and Young Kim, the exhibition revisits the motivations often associated with the Age of Exploration and reorients them toward questions of proximity, coexistence, and exchange.

The phrase “Gold, Gospel, Glory” condenses the ambitions that propelled journeys across oceans and continents: the pursuit of wealth, the transmission of belief, and the acquisition of prestige. In contrast to reproducing these historical imperatives, the exhibition proposes a subtle inversion.

Where ‘gold’ once signified the accumulation of material wealth, Gathering foregrounds the value of assembly itself. Where ‘gospel’ historically described the outward transmission of belief, Ground shifts attention toward the shared contexts in which encounters occur. Where ‘glory’ once referred to recognition achieved through expansion and authority, Gesture turns toward the modest yet meaningful traces that emerge through exchange. Together, Gathering/Ground/Gesture suggests a sequence: the act of gathering, the formation of a shared ground, and the gestures that arise from being together.
