Srisasanti Gallery proudly presents (Un)certain Behavior, Eko Bintang’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition explores unpredictable shifts in identity and the influences of perception on these changes through, 11 acrylic paintings on linen, 6 drawings, and an air dry clay sculpture new to Eko’s practice.
The title, (Un)certain Behavior, defined the paradox of self-identity by bracketing the prefix “Un,” highlighting the tension between certainty and uncertainty. The tension between certainty and uncertainty reflects Eko's contemplative perspective on self-identity as an ever-evolving process, shaped by both internal and external influences—behavior and appearance.
The works in Un(certain) Behavior are rooted in four thematic sections. In the first section, Eko examines how appearance and external attributes shape the way identity is perceived through the use of costumes. In the second section, limbs—arms and legs—become a central element in his composition. The third section continues the theme in the previous section while offering a slightly more optimistic take on how our flaws can sometimes lead to unexpected opportunities. In the final section, Eko demonstrates how slight changes can fragment a single identity into multiple personas.
